Fibre Broadband (FTTC), Leased Line & Ethernet First Mile (EFM)
When your offices are a distance from the local BT exchange, you are often faced with very slow Broadband speeds over a standard ADSL connection. We offer Fibre Broadband, Leased Lines, EFM, Server Hosting & MPLS for customers who have bandwidth constraints at their offices. Please give us a call to arrange a meeting to discuss your requirements in more detail.
Fibre Broadband (FTTC)
5 Rings Telecom - Fibre to the Cabinet or FTTC, is ideal for business users who demand high bandwidth at an affordable price. Fibre to the Cabinet offers download speeds of up to 40Mbps and upload speeds of up to 10Mbps, though FTTC customers can realistically expect to get 30-36Mbps download speeds due to distance from cabinet. Because FTTC offers such high performance it is a viable alternative for businesses previously using expensive leased lines or Ethernet circuits.
It's a new sort of Broadband internet connection which, instead of using your existing copper phone line all the way from the telephone exchange to your house or office, uses a fiber-optic connection from the exchange to the "street cabinet" nearest to you. From there to your office it still uses the exiting copper wire. By reducing the amount of copper wire used in the connection the network is able to provide much higher connection speeds in both directions, and the loss of speed and reliability introduced by the copper line and connections in it are reduced. Where traditional ADSL broadband offers speeds up to 8mb/sec or up to 24mb/sec on the newer exchanges, FTTC offers speeds of up to 40mb/sec, and upload speeds of up to 2mb/sec or 10mb/sec depending on service level.
What's new about Fibre Broadband FTTC?
Not much in reality, from an end-user perspective Fibre Broadband FTTC works in much the same way as ADSL-based broadband, except that it is much faster.
The introduction of Fibre Broadband FTTC around the UK has meant the replacement of BT green cabinets with larger monoliths that can handle the kit (DSLANS) needed to provide FTTC to surrounding premises. FTTC still uses existing telephone lines to deliver broadband to your premises, but from the cabinet in the street to your local telephone exchange fibre optic cable is used to carry the broadband signal. Because fibre is carrying the broadband signal for the majority of its journey you get a much faster service.
Can I get FTTC?
Currently Fibre to the Cabinet is not available everywhere in the UK. Please contact us on 0844 576 0550 or email orders@5ringstelecom.co.uk to check availability.
Leased Line (Ethernet)
Next Generation Ethernet offers a dedicated, superfast and secure way for your customers to connect their sites and to the Internet. What’s more, because it’s provided over the UK’s most connected Next Generation Network, we can reach your customers effectively as well as offer a choice of speeds ranging from 10Mbps to massive 1Gbps! What’s more, our Next Generation Ethernet offers a future-proofed access method which makes network solutions such as Managed IPVPN, Voice over Ethernet and Internet VPN all possible!
Ethernet First Mile (EFM)
Ethernet First Mile (EFM) technology is an advanced form of broadband service that provides up to 10Mbps symmetrical uncontended access using ubiquitous copper circuits. For companies looking for high quality upstream capacity to support e-mail, head office VPN termination or hosted applications, EFM can overcome the upstream limitations of ADSL or SDSL, without costing as much as a dedicated fibre-based Ethernet service. With shorter lead times than fibre leased-lines, but with more resilience than a standard broadband line, EFM fills a much-needed gap between the two types of access. EFM is also useful for those sites where higher capacity access is required, but fibre would cost too much to install. Opal’s EFM service is delivered on between two and eight dedicated copper circuits (included in the price) depending on distance, copper quality and bandwidth requirements and comes with a next business day fix guarantee and a target availability of 99.9%. Copper-based access technology Lower costs and shorter lead times than fibre. May be available where fibre is not possible. Alternative media to fibre providing superior separation where EFM is deployed as a back up to a fibre-based system. Multiple copper pairs Openreach has decided to deploy a minimum of two pairs to each EFM connectivity system. This protects the customer from loss of connectivity due to failure of one of the pairs alone. Higher uptime characteristics. More reliable than standard ADSL, ADSL2+ and SDSL services. Symmetrical Access to enhanced upstream capacity. Most cost-effective and technologically robust* method of delivering 3Mbps-10Mbps upstream. Uncontended Certainty of access performance. Service performance is not affected by other people using the same exchange. Ethernet presentation Simplifies edge CPE choices. No need for expensive ADSL modules, microfilters or interface cards. Can be plugged straight into a firewall or other Ethernet device (Internet-facing service only).
